Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Mermaid Drive in Atwater just before 5:00 p.m., Sunday evening.
Firefighters saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the garage area of one house upon arrival. After a deeper assessment, fire crews saw the fire was able to make it to a second house. Additional resources were requested quickly after, according to Cal Fire Battalion Chief Robert Ayuso.
The fire was officialy contained nearly an hour later.
Occupants from both homes were displaced, according to Ayuso.
No injures were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Ayuso said.
