One man is now in custody after attempting to kidnap a woman at the Rancho San Miguel Parking Lot in Merced, police say.
Merced Police responded to the area of 1930 E. Yosemite Parkway for a male suspect who approached the victim from behind while she was trying to get into her vehicle. The suspect grabbed the victim by the arm and pulled her across the parking lot, police say.
The victim was able to break free and later assisted officers by identifying her attacker, police say.
Police arrived shortly after. The suspect (Angelo White) then ran from officers when approached. His was quickly detained, police say.
The motive for the attack is unknown. White and the victim have no relation. White was arrested for attempted kidnapping and booked into custody at the Merced County Jail. His bail is set for $100,000.
