One person is now dead after an alleged DUI driver crashes vehicle in Merced.

Merced PD responded to V and 9th Streets for a fatal collision at 6:50 p.m. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Luis Rodriguez Amezcua, was driving a Black 2014 Camaro west bound on 9th St, police say. He failed to stop at the stop sign, collided into two vehicles, police say. The driver of the Camaro, Amezcua, was driving at a high-rate of speed, never slowing down for the stop sign, according to witnesses. Amezcua initially fled the scene leaving behind his two passengers, but witnesses directed the officers to him one block away from the scene.

 

One passenger, a Hispanic male adult was flown to Modesto with major injuries, the other passenger, a Hispanic male adult was pronounced deceased at the scene. The occupants from the other two vehicles only sustained minor injuries, police say.

 

 

While speaking with Amezcua, the Officers noticed he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Amezcua was ultimately arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, vehicular manslaughter, and hit-and-run.
