Merced Police Officers were dispatched to the 1600 Block of Laurel Avenue to investigate a report of gunshots fired in the area. When officers arrived in the area, they located a male adult who had been shot in the upper torso area of his body. Officers also located a second gunshot victim, described as a 26-year-old female adult. The female victim sustained a gunshot wound to her left leg.
Riggs Paramedics provided medical treatment to both victims at the crime scene. The male adult victim was subsequently airlifted to a regional hospital in Modesto for medical treatment because of the critical wound that he sustained to his torso. The female victim was ground transported to Mercy Hospital in Merced for medical treatment. Police Officers canvassed the surrounding residential area of Laurel Avenue, searching the area for the suspects, but the suspects were not located.
Merced Police Detectives were called out to investigate the shooting incident; the Crime Scene Response Team were called to the crime scene to collect evidence from the shooting. Police are asking citizens who witnessed the shooting to contact the police department with the information and callers can remain anonymous.
