On November 4, 2018 just before 12:00 AM, an incident involving persons possibly impersonating a peace officers vehicle were reported in Winton.
The victim explains to Merced Daily exactly what happened…
“I was heading back home from a friend’s house. I would take my normal route which would be on Shaffer Rd going into Winton. As I was driving on Shaffer Rd., the vehicle in front of me pulled over slightly to the side of the road to let me pass; the vehicle then followed me, and turned its ‘police lights’ on. I then pulled over to the side of the road on Shaffer.
She tells Merced Daily that once she saw the doors open, four subjects came out of the vehicle, and walked towards her vehicle. The female victim then says one subject actually attempted to open her passenger side door. Thats when she decided to speed off.
She tells Merced Daily that none of these four subjects were wearing masks. She remembers getting a good look at one of the suspects who attempted to open her passenger door. She describes him as an African American male wearing a red echo sweater.
We asked why you, she says, “I believe I was at the wrong place at the wrong time. I have a pink car that’s very unique; why would they want to steal that? If the word gets out a pink car was stolen it would be easy to find?”
The vehicle is described as a black or dark colored Ford Crown Victoria.
