lesanne Jacobsen from Jacobsen Ranch, has been selling Lamb at “The Original” Merced County Certified Farmers’ Market for more than 8 years.
“I married into this,” said Lesanne. “My husband and son are the 4th and 5th generations raising sheep.
“My husband taught high school agriculture for more than 31 years and our son currently teaches high school agriculture as well.”
Lesanne Jacobsen, who has a Bachelors degree in Animal Science from Fresno State, was the one that sought another venue to market the animals that were not show quality.
With having high standards, Jacobsen Ranch is available to sell Lamb at Farmers’ Markets due to their product going through a USDA inspected facility.
“We’re now able to sell at restaurants, to chefs, and individual packages direct to the consumers.”
Jacobsen Ranch raises registered purebred sheep. “We have two different breeds, Suffolks and Montadales”, said Lesanne. “Our priority is to provide quality seed stock genetics to other producers. For those animals that do not meet their high standards, they will be processed through the direct marketing channel.”
You can find local Farm Fresh Lamb at the Merced College Farmers’ Market on Tuesdays and “The Original” Merced County’s Certified Farmers’ Market on 16th Street and Canal Street on Saturdays.
