On September 11, 2019, The City of Atwater held their National Day of Service and Remembrance to those first responders who lost their life on the tragic day of September 11, 2001.

The public event was held outside the Atwater Community Center at 8:30 a.m.

“We wanted to remember those who fell and remind ourselves even in these times not to let history repeat it self,” said Atwater Police Chief Michael Salvador.“I’ve been a part of a couple 9/11 ceremonies in other jurisdictions, but nothing this elaborate,” said Salvador. “It took a lot of people to pull this event off.”

Salvador told Merced Daily, he wanted to thank Public Works, Firefighters, Riggs. APD, Sheriff’s Office, CHP, United States Marine Core and everyone who made the event successful.
