Plans to continue construction are still underway at the former Sears building.

In a recent phone interview with a Merced City Official, the former Sears building has new owners, which resulted in adjusting different plans than the previous owners originally had. Construction should have started by now, but thieves stole a large power panel from the site, which delayed construction for months.

The good news is that the new owners are still promoting seven out of their eight tenants: Burlington, Ulta Beauty, Bath & Body, Rack Room Shoes, Petco, Five Below, and Mattress Firm, a city official confirmed.

Now, you might be wondering about an update on the other side, which Codding Enterprises owns, the Merced Mall.

Merced Daily attempted to contact Codding Enterprises but has not received a return phone call or email.

The Merced Mall is currently up for sale, and it is unclear whether the Merced Mall will have new owners.
