A homeless encampment was removed under the Childs Avenue overpass in Merced.

This was a multi-agency collaboration to clean-up the Union Pacific Railroad in Merced.

“We’ve been working on giving them services the last 30 days, last week eight accepted services, that’s a win for us,” said Merced Police Sargent Dan Dabney.

Only five transients remained before clean-up crews arrived Wednesday morning, according to Dabney. No information if those five actually accepted services.

Even though this area falls in the City of Merced, the area is actually owned by Union Pacific Railroad, a private company, not the City of Merced, the whole process takes a little longer to clean things up, according to Dabney.

No other issues occurred during the clean-up.
