On October 5, 2018, several high school students hurried across an intersection against a red light. A 17 year old Atwater resident was struck and seriously injured. The driver of the vehicle was, by all accounts, driving safely and at the speed limit and could not avoid striking the teen. It’s important for everyone to know that the laws of inertia cannot be refuted or even challenged: objects in motion will stay in motion, and it can be difficult to estimate the speed of an oncoming vehicle. Please remember that the pedestrians are not the only victims; the drivers must also deal with the mental trauma that occurs when things like this happen.
PLEASE take a moment to sit down with your child or teen before you are both have to rush to the hospital … in separate vehicles.
