Back in December of 2020, a new boxing gym, jrssoma, opened in the city of Atwater.
Jaime Velazquez, the owner of jrssoma, says more than 40 juveniles sign-up within the first month of opening.
Now more than a year later, the boxing gym is receiving some positive feedback from the community.
This year, Jamie Velazquez, the owner of jrssoma, plans to further his positive boxing gym reputation. He recently changed his boxing gym into a non-profit organization. This would allow businesses to donate or sponsor his boxing gym.
Velazquez says one of his first partnerships this year, is a partnership with Haven, an adult with special needs program. Adults with special needs can come in for an hour and use the boxing gym.
Velazquez would also like to have an elder mobility class in the near future.
For the youth, Velazquez plans on holding future events in the community. He says if any business wants to partner with him, whether it’s a class or sponsorship, you can contact him.
His next event will be on April 30. He plans on having fight night. The event will show a boxing ppv event.
