A known gang member, Charles Jackson, is in custody after a warrant was issued for his arrest, police say.
The Merced Police Departments Gang Violence Suppression Unit attempted to arrest Jackson at 1:30 p.m., in the unit block of East 12th Street, but he fled on foot, police say.
He was caught shortly after the foot chase.
A 9mm handgun dropped from his waist during the chase, police say.
According to Police, Jackson was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
His bail amount is $312,000.00, according to jail records.
