Merced PD made a traffic stop at W. 10th St and P St in the City of Merced. There were three occupants including a 6 year old child in the rear seat. The driver was on probation with search and seizure, police say.
Police say, a search of the vehicle revealed 6.2 grams of Methamphetamine between the center console and passenger seat and 41.2 grams of Heroin under the passenger seat. The location where the drugs were found was easily accessible by the 6 year old child. The passenger, Joseph Hawkinson (38), from San Jose CA, claimed responsibility for the narcotics.
Hawkinson told police, he bought the Heroin in San Jose and was going to trade it in Merced for a motorcycle. Hawkinson said the Meth was for personal use.
Hawkinson was booked for possession and transportation of narcotics, possession of narcotics for sale and child endangerment.
