On October 18, 2018, the Merced Police Department’s Gang Violence Suppression Unit (GVSU) developed information that gang member Luis Ibarra had firearms at his home. Ibarra is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing any firearms. GVSU officers and Probation officers served a search warrant at Ibarra’s residence on Canal Street in Merced. During the search, officers located a rifle, ammunition, gang indicia and nun chucks. Ibarra was booked at the Merced County jail for weapons charges and gang enhancements.
