On September 24, 2018 at about 2:16 p.m. Sergeant Kevin Blake with the Merced County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a 2008 Dodge Charger for expired vehicle registration with a non-operation. The driver, later identified as Pedro Torres, refused to stop and led Sergeant Blake on a vehicle pursuit.
Torres fled through the neighborhoods in the Beachwood area reaching speeds of 80 miles per hour. He passed several vehicles during the pursuit and ran several stop signs. Torrez drove through the intersection of Franklin and Santa Fe. He lost control going over the tracks and collided with a Ford Ranger pick-up. Torrez’s vehicle came to rest after crashing through a fence at the north/west corner of Santa Fe and Franklin. He jumped out of the vehicle to run but was cut off and arrested after a brief struggle.
The driver of the Ranger was not injured and Pedro was transported and booked into the Merced County Jail for the violations of Felony Probation violation, possession of 4 grams of methamphetamine, and a large number of vehicle code violations.
