At around 2:30 p.m., Merced PD responded to the area of Portola Way for one person suffering from a gunshot wound to the head region.

Upon officers arrival, one person was found with a gunshot wound. The victim was conscious and alert, but was unable to talk.

The victim is believed to be in his late 20s to early 30s.

The victim is being transported by Riggs to Modesto.

According to witnesses, the suspect drove off.

 

**Update** 5:30 PM

On May 19, 2019, Merced Police Officers were dispatched to the 1500 Block of Portola Way to investigate an incident of a gun being fired in the area. When officers arrived on Portola Way, officers located a gunshot victim. The victim was shot in the upper torso area of his body, seriously wounded.

Police canvassed the residential neighborhood, looking for suspects involved in the shooting, but the suspects were not located. While officers were looking for the suspects, additional information was obtained about the suspects quickly leaving the area of the shooting in a vehicle (unknown description or color) before the police arrival at the crime scene.

Riggs Paramedics arrived at the crime scene and administered medical assistance to the victim. The victim was transported to a regional hospital in Stanislaus County for medical treatment. Merced Police Department Detectives are currently investigating this aggravated assault incident.
