Two suspects arrested for involvement in child’s death

On November 7, 2018, the Dos Palos Police Department and emergency medical personnel responded to a call for a medical aid on Ida Street in the City of Dos Palos involving 4-year-old child having seizures. The child was transported by ambulance to the hospital and passed away.

Due to the age of the victim and the nature of the death, an autopsy was performed by the Merced County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Bureau and the death was ruled a homicide. Dos Palos Police requested the assistance of the Merced County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Bureau and after a 2-week investigation; Sheriff Detectives arrested the child’s mother Chanish Conrady (22) for Felony Child Endangerment. Investigators also arrested Conrady’s boyfriend, Steven Perez Jr. (27) for murder, Felony Child Endangerment, and assault on a child resulting in great bodily injury. Both Conrady and Perez were booked into the Merced County Jail.
