On April 4, 2019 the Merced County Sheriff’s Office Supervised Release Team (SRT), Sheriff Emergency Response Team (SERT), Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), Classification Bureau, and Detectives Bureau worked with the Merced County Probation Department, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) (CACorrections), and the Merced Area Gang and Narcotic Enforcement Team (MAGNET) to conduct a large scale search operation within the Merced County Jail facility. The operation was a team effort to conduct contraband searches within the Jail Facility. During the searches the team located several items of contraband including:

(1) Cellphone
(3) Large metal stabbing instruments commonly referred to as a “Shank”
(1) Plastic Shank
(1) Jail made tattoo gun
Methamphetamine
Tobacco
(1) Handcuff KeyThis operation led to six inmates being charge with additional crimes. The Merced County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the agencies who participated in this operation making it a success.
