The first Atwater Fire and Police Holiday Toy Drive raised more than $12,000 this holiday season and was able to buy toys for more than 300 underprivleged children in Atwater, according to Fire Capitan Bobby Ayuso.
The Atwater Fire and Police Holiday Toy Drive was officially announced October 18, 2019. The goal was to bring the community together and create happy memories for the children across the City of Atwater.
The Atwater Fire and Police Holiday Toy Drive kicked off with their website atwatertoydrive.com. Atwater residents were able to register their children on the website.
Official Atwater Fire and Police Holiday Toy Drive bins were placed at certain businesses and public city offices throughout the City of Atwater.
The first major event, “Fill the Cruiser” and “Fill the Fire Truck” was held at the Bloss Bowl at Atwater High. The second event was a Drive-Thru Tri-Tip Dinner held by the Atwater Fire/CalFire. The third event was accepting toy donations at the Atwater Bloss Home after the Atwater Christmas Parade.
On October 19,20,21 holiday shopping began at Super Target in Atwater.
On October 23, 2019 several volunteers organized and bagged toys.
On October 24, 2019 parents were able to pickup their children’s toys at the Atwater Community Center.
Unrwapped toy donations will still be accepted for next year’s annual toy drive. The unrwapped toys will stored away, according to Fire Engineer Chris Butler.
