Merced Union High School District’s (MUHSD)  “Summer Meals Program” begins Monday, June 10 and will provide free breakfast and lunch for children 18-and-under at several sites across the district. Students do not need to be enrolled at Merced Union High School District to receive free meals.

“Many families in the district that depend on free or reduced lunches during the school year may struggle to provide nutritious meals for their children over the summer break,” said MUHSD Superintendent Alan Peterson. “With this program, we aim to relieve that burden for those families.”

Along with providing free food for low-income families, the “Summer Meals Program” offers a healthy alternative for children who may eat foods with little nutritional value during the day while their caregivers are at work.

“Every meal served is well-balanced and complies with the National School Lunch Program requirements,” said MUHSD Director of Nutrition Services Erin Tassey. “These requirements include healthy options such as fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and foods lower in sugar, fat, and salt.”
