Winton man struck, killed after riding bike on roadway.
One man was killed on Santa Fe near Chestnut Lane late Thursday night.
Authorities responded to the area of Santa Fe near Chestnut Lane for a fatal Bicyclist vs vehicle at 10:33 p.m.
The investigation determined the bicyclist was in the middle of the roadway riding his bike westbound on Santa Fe. Meanwhile, a 35 year-old Merced man, driving a 1999 Dodge Ram, was driving westbound on Santa Fe. Unfortunelty, the driver collided with the bicyclist, according to CHP Public Information Officer Eric Zuniga.
The bicyclist had no lights, reflectors on the rear of the bike, Zuniga said.
The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with authorities.
Speed is not believed to be a factor, according to witness testimonies.
Drugs and alcohol are NOT a factor in this fatal accident, Zuniga said.
