The California Highway Patrol is investigating a man who was struck and killed while crossing the middle of southbound 99 near Sultana in Merced County on Wednesday night.

According to CHP officer Eric Zuniga, the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 9:15 p.m., where they discovered an adult male deceased from being struck by a vehicle.

The investigation concluded that, for some reason, the pedestrian was in the middle of the highway when he was struck by a vehicle, which then resulted in the pedistrian being struck by multiple vehicles shortly after.

The initial driver who struck the man stayed on the scene.
