On September 13, 2018 at 10:41 p.m., Los Banos police officers were dispatched to the area of Wilmott Avenue and Santa Ana Street for the reporting of a shooting. Witnesses told officers a truck described as a gold colored lifted Chevrolet Silverado was chasing another vehicle while firing shots at the vehicle.
Moments later, a man and woman called the police department and reported they were being chased and shot at by two men driving a lifted truck. The man and woman victims told officers they were parked and sleeping in their vehicle on Commerce Way in Los Banos. Their dog began to bark and they saw a man approaching their vehicle. The man got back into the gold truck after the dog began barking. The man and woman drove up next to the gold truck and at some point one of the two men in the truck pointed a gun at the pair.
The victims fled in their vehicle and the two men in the gold Chevrolet Silverado gave chase. As they neared the intersection of Wilmott Avenue and Santa Ana Street, one of the men started firing shots, striking the victim’s vehicle multiple times. The victims fled and returned to a safe location to call the police.
A short time later, police dispatch received a report of a rollover traffic collision near the intersection of Badger Flat Road and Pacheco Boulevard. The vehicle involved in the collision reportedly matched the description of the shooting suspect vehicle. Officers arrived an encountered the driver, Miguel Ibanez, 22 and passenger, Daniel Estrada, 18 both of Los Banos near the vehicle. Officers detained the two men and located a .45 caliber handgun.
After interviewing the two men and processing the crime scenes, Miguel Ibanez and Daniel Estrada were arrested on multiple felony charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy, maliciously and willfully discharge of a firearm at an occupied motor vehicle, gross and negligent discharge of a firearm, and other related weapons charges. Ibanez and Estrada remain in custody at the Los Banos Police Department Jail in lieu of $910,000 bail.
