J/R Donuts first opened in 1994, quickly making a name for itself in the City of Atwater.
Tim Thun, the soon to be new owner, says his father moved here from Cambodia before opening the donut shop in Atwater. His parents started by working every position to save money, working long hours before even opening the donut shop. Those long hours have paid off, because J/R Donuts is still open after 26 years.
THE BUSINESS TOOK A FINANCIAL HIT DUE TO STRICT COVID-19 REGULATIONS
In early 2020, the business did take a financial hit, sometimes barley braking even. Tim says the business received no help financially. But now in 2021 business is starting to pick up again.
FATHER PLANS TO RETIRE, LETTING THE FAMILY BUSINESS CONTINUE
Tim says even though his father will retire, he plans on keeping the family business going. He also plans to keep up with modern trends, something he says his father never did.
