On May 22, 2020 at 4:01 P.M., the Merced Police Department responded to 1347 W. 16th Street for the report of a robbery and car-jacking. The victim was assaulted, robbed and car-jacked at gunpoint. The victim said there were 3-5 suspects involved, one of which was armed with a hand gun. The victim’s wallet, cell phone and car keys were taken during the assault. The suspects fled the area in the victim’s vehicle. Officers searched the area for the vehicle but were unable to locate the vehicle.

On May 22, 2020 at 6:43 P.M., Officer Mckinnon, of the Merced Police Department Traffic Division, located the vehicle at 1346 W. Main Street. Officers responded to that area, and upon arrival, 2 male juveniles ran from the vehicle. Officers pursued the two suspects and they were taken into custody. An adult male suspect, Zachary Richardson (21), was found asleep in the passenger seat of the victim’s vehicle and arrested.

Richardson was later found to be in possession of several of the victim’s credit cards and the victim’s California driver’s license. One of the juvenile suspects was in possession of the victim’s American Express credit card. A replica handgun was found in the victim’s vehicle. All 3 suspects admitted to their involvement in the robbery, assault and car-jacking. Richardson was booked into Merced County jail and the juveniles were booked into Merced County Juvenile Hall for robbery, car-jacking, auto theft and conspiracy.

A fourth suspect, identified as a white female adult in her mid to late 20’s is still outstanding.
