One woman is dead after being fatally shot in an Atwater residence.
Atwater Police Department responded to the 1400 block of Eucalyptus St. regarding shots being fired around 1:15 a.m.
Officers obtained information that a caucasian female victim was inside a house at the 1400 block of Eucalyptus St.
Officers and EMS attempted lifesaving measure, but the victim was declared dead at the scene, according to police.
Officers located evidence of several shots being fired by a small caliber handgun from outside the victim’s residence. Several of those rounds struck the victim in the upper body. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending investigation and notification of next of kin. An autopsy is pending.
Officers are in the early stages of the investigation and are asking the publics assistance in providing surveillance video in the area at the time of the shooting.
