At the most recent Merced City Council Meeting several Merced residents let out their frustration about the homeless takeover at Applegate Park and Stephan Leanard Park.
One woman who spoke at the Merced City Council Meeting showed a small video presentation, which appeared to show two women coming toward her vehicle to spit on her as she was filming them at Applegate Park.
“I fill like it’s impacting my quality of life. I left my husband tonight to guard the house, because of the threats we received,” said the concerned Merced resident.

George was next to speak. George mentioned his continued frustration about the homeless at Stephan Leanard Park, which he lives across the street from.
“I’m here to talk about the same issue. It has not stopped. They’re having sex, using drugs, urinating everywhere, said Jose’s Spanish translator.
“If I go outside of my house they start offending me and my wife. It’s just bothering me, because I know parks are for kids not for homeless people.”
Stephan Lenard Park is 20 feet away from Margaret Sheehy Elementary.
Public officials have publicly said only 1 out of 10 homeless people accept services.
