Hundreds of animal rights activists gathered outside Foster Farms in Livingston.
Animal rights activists throughout California, even as far as South Korea and Mexico, gathered outside Foster Farms, some even going to the extreme lengths of chaining themselves to a rented U-haul truck on Foster Farms private property. The purpose of the rented U-Haul truck was to stop the entrance and exit to the facility. “We wanted to stop the slaughter,” said Samantha Eachus, press coordinator for Direct Action Everywhere.
Animal rights activist Rob Lopez says he came all the way from the Bay Area to protest. He told Merced Daily he became involved after watching abuse in his own house hold growing up. He realized abusing humans is no different then abusing animals.
The press coordinator for Direct Action Everywhere, Samantha Eachus, claims she sent footage from hidden cameras inside the facility to the district attorney, she claims no charges were ever filed.
The purpose of the protest was to draw attention to animal cruelty and worker violations, Eachus said.
11 people were arrested during the protest.
