Alex McCabe, a former Livingston councilman, donated the first no cost water filling station to Livingston.

Alex McCabe tells Merced Daily “I made a promise to bring water filling stations to Livingston when I ran for mayor last year, I kept my word.”

Alex McCabe ended up loosing the mayor race, which allowed him time to build up his hemp farming business.

Alex tells Merced Daily It will cost millions of dollars to fix Livingston’s water infrastructure. “We’re a working class community. It doesn’t make any sense to me that citizens have to pay an absorbent amount of money for water,” said Alex. “There are several people in my community who buy jugs of filtered water to cook with and use for drinking water. It hurts my heart to think some families must choose between paying bills and providing their family with safe clean drinking water. I believe water is a human right. No one should have to pay twice for water.”

Alex McCabe is the CEO and farmer at Farmer’s Hemp, which employees 75 people in Fresno County. Alex says he wanted to bring those jobs here in Merced County but couldn’t due to inefficiency from the Merced County Board of Supervisors and a moratorium they passed at the time. “They had 18 months to review cannabis and hemp and couldn’t get it done” said Alex.

Merced County has now lifted that moratorium.

Alex, some friends and his partners at Farmers Hemp plan to donate two other water filling stations in Livingston and one in the city of San Joaquin in Fresno County. With a goal of bringing no cost water filling stations to all rural Central Valley cities with water below state standards. Alex and his hemp partners also donated a fire truck last month to the city of Jalostotitlan Jalisco in Mexico.

“I live a very modest lifestyle. I drive an old Chevy pick-up. Fancy things don’t excite me, job creation and impacting communities does, mi gente primero” said Alex.
