The Castle demolishing project is underway.
Five former dormitories will be demolished at Castle as soon as next week.
The former dormitories have been abandon for nearly 27 years since the base closed.
Clean-up and abatement related work has already begun.
The former dormitories are located in front of the Merced County Human Services Agency.
The Demolishing project is to prepare for newer development in the near future, according to Community and Economic Development Director Mark Hendrickson.
