According to Merced CHP officer Eric Zuniga, the California Highway Patrol attempted to initiate a stop on southbound 99 near Westside Boulevard for a vehicle allegedly traveling at 105 mph.
The short pursuit ended after the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a fence, landing in a water basin near southbound 99 and Applegate (behind Panda Express).
Immediately after the suspect’s vehicle landed in the water basin, a CHP officer took action and dove into the water to rescue the driver, a female juvenile.
After the incident, the juvenile was taken to the hospital and arrested for being under the influence, according to Zuniga.
No major injuries were reported after the incident.
