On November 20, 2018, at approximately 7:50 pm, A report of an overturned vehicle was reported on SR-99 southbound, south of Westside.
Here is what happened, according to CHP.
Party #1 was driving Vehicle #1 (Ford, Escape) on SR-99 southbound, south of Westside Boulevard, within the #1 lane at an estimated speed of 85-90 MPH (based upon Witness statements).
Party #2 (Mario Alarcon,27, Turlock) was driving Vehicle #2 (Nissan, Altima) on SR-99 southbound, south of Westside Boulevard, within the #1 lane at an estimated speed of 70 MPH, directly in front of V-1. For unknown reasons, P-1 initiated an unsafe turning movement to the left and allowed V-1 to travel across the east roadway edge and onto the east dirt and grass center median.
V1 began to rotate on its wheels in a clockwise manner while in the center median. V-1 reentered the southbound traffic lanes where it immediately began to roll over on its driver side. P-2 observed V-1 began to rollover directly in front of his path of travel within the #1 lane and attempted to slow down, however, the front of V-2 collided with the right front of V-1 within the #1 lane of SR-99 southbound. After the collision, V-1 came to a rest on its wheels, facing in a northwesterly direction, obstructing the #1 and partially into the #2 traffic lane of SR-99 southbound.
V-2 came to a rest on its wheels, facing in a southerly direction, within the #1 lane of SR-99 southbound. P-1 succumbed to her injuries at the collision scene. P-2 was not injured as result of this collision.
The #1 and #2 traffic lanes of SR-99 southbound were shut down for approximately 2 hours, however, traffic was diverted onto the #3 lane of SR-99 southbound.
This collision remains under investigation. It is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs are a factor to this collision.
