Atwater City Fire was called to respond to a hazardous atmosphere call at Atwater Super Target at 2:12 p.m.
According to Atwater Fire Marshal Chief Blaine Lopes, their fire engine did air monitoring, which can detect a toxic atmosphere. The engine did detect some readings, but nothing above the limit.
The store was evacuated as a safety precaution until the cause was identified.
Lopes stated that the cause was an overheated battery.
There were no reported injuries/illnesses.
