Merced Police Officers were dispatched to the 100 Block of E. Main Street in response to a shooting this morning.

When officers arrived in the area, they located a victim who had had a gunshot wound to her upper torso. Riggs Paramedics arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance to the victim. The victim was transported to a regional hospital in Stanislaus County to receive medical treatment. Police determined that the suspect(s) involved in this incident had departed the area before their arrival at the scene. Police Detectives are conducting the investigation of this aggravated assault.

The victim reported that before the shooting, she looked outside her residence and saw an unidentified person breaking the window of her vehicle. The victim went outside her residence and confronted the suspect, trying to stop the suspect from breaking into her vehicle. It was at that time that another suspect, who was in the yard of the residence, shot the victim. Both suspects quickly left the area in an unknown direction.
