The Atwater Police Department responded to a disturbance call at the 2400 block of Palm Avenue.
Officers responded near the area and found a Blue Toyota that had struck a tree on Fortuna Avenue. As officers approached the vehicle, officers saw a male subject run from the scene. The officers pursued the man on foot and ultimately apprehended him.
Shortly after the incident, officers located an injured adult male near the crashed vehicle.
The victim was transported by air ambulance to a Modesto hospital with major injuries.
According to a press release, The preliminary investigation provided officers with information that the Blue Toyota was driving erratically in the area prior to the incident. Information was also gathered that led officers to believe that the suspect, Trujillo-Sanchez, was driving the vehicle and intentionally left the roadway to strike the victim causing the injuries. Officers then later determined that the subject Trujillo-Sanchez was the brother of the injured victim’s girlfriend.
After the preliminary investigation, Trujillo-Sanchez was taken into custody for Attempted Murder and Assault with a Deadly Weapon and booked into the Merced County Jail.
Trujillo-Sanchez bail is listed at $530,000.00, according to jail records.
