Merced County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Marathon gas station on Santa Fe and N.Winton Way for a shots fired call at 6:00 p.m.
When deputies arrived, one victim was found with non life threatening gunshot wounds, according to Deputy Daryl Allen.
Allen says two suspects walked up to the victim, shooting at him multiple times. The suspects then took off on foot in an unknown direction.
The victim was then airlifted to a Modesto hospital.
Allen told Merced Daily that the victim was possibly at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Allen says it’s still early on in the investigation but he says the shooting incident seems to be a random attack.
This is the second shooting in Winton in the last two weeks.
