One man was killed in a traffic collision on Highway 59 in Merced County, according to CHP.

CHP responded to Highway 59 near Sandy Mush for a two vehicle traffic collision on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

A male, not identified, was declared deceased on scene. The other driver, a 53-year-old male, was transported to an out of area hospital with minor injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The investigation determined a pickup truck, driven by the survivor of the crash, was traveling southbound on Highway 59. Meanwhile, a Mercedes was traveling northbound on Highway 59. The Mercedes veered into the southbound lane, crashing into the pickup truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor for the survivor of the crash. It’s unknown if alcohol was factor for the deceased male.
