At approximately 7:06 p.m., first responders responded to a vehicle vs pedestrian was reported on Highway 99 near MLK in Merced.

One person did suffer major injuries, but was conscious and alert, according to officers.


UPDATE:

On January 14th, 2019, at approximately 7:00 p.m. a Traffic collision occurred at the Martin Luther King Jr Way Northbound highway 99 on-ramp. Upon California highway patrol arrival they located a man approximately 70-years-old that had been struck by a Big rig.

During the investigation CHP it was discovered that the pedestrian was walking from west to east across the on-ramp, approximately 100 feet from the on-ramp to the intersection of the freeway. The big rig was heading up on the ramp at approximately 15 MPH when the pedestrian was hit. The pedestrian was flown to a Modesto hospital with laceration injuries to the head.

No statements were provided by the pedestrian due to his injuries. The big rig driver approximately 40-years-old out of Sacramento was not injured.

No drugs or alcohol are believed to be a factor for this incident.
