An Atwater resident is furious over a proposed convenience store, with a gas station, that might be put right across the street from her house.

Wendy tells Merced Daily, her and several neighbors in the area received a letter from the City of Atwater stating a proposed convenience store with gas station could be coming on  Winton Way and Elm Avenue in Atwater.

“Some people seem to have a gas fascination here. There are so many gas stations near by. The last thing we want in this area is another one. Its not healthy, and could be dangerous.”

Wendy goes on by telling Merced Daily about a handful of accidents that have happened in area through the years. “Worst case scenario, a vehicle hits one of the gas pumps here,” say’s Wendy.

Wendy tells Merced Daily, “I went door to door around my neighborhood and found out my neighbors received a letter from the City of Atwater, but the letter was in English. Several of my neighbors only spoke Spanish, so I had to ask their kids about the situation because the parents didn’t understand what the letter meant.

On February 25, 2019, the proposed convenience store, with gas station, was suppose to be on the agenda for the Atwater City Council Meeting, but was taken off the agenda.

However, that did not let Wendy stop her concerns about the proposed convenience store with gas station.

Wendy tells Merced Daily,”I want the proposal completely shutdown. I will continue to go to every single Atwater City Council Meeting until so.
