Last Wednesday, lights were put on a pine tree near 5 corners by Bobbi’s Liquor to celebrate Diwali, a festival of lights, which symbolizes the spiritual “victory over light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.” Diwali is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world.

“This is the first time we have done this in the United States,” said Gary Singh, the owner’s son, “We plan to keep the lights up forever. We’ll be more prepared next year with more lights.”

Paul Creighton, mayor of Atwater acknowledged the lights around the busy intersection saying, “Im super excited that the Faith Based Communities are all working together to make all our religious holidays this much better.
